How to Apply for A Scholarship

Dear applicant,

Our online scholarship application is open annually on the first Monday of each month March through October.

During the months of March – October, if the online application is not open on the first Monday, it is because we already have a waiting list and are working our way through it trying to help others who have already applied, so please continue searching for help through other sources and please stay safe.

As you can imagine, with the addiction crisis our nation is facing, the number of applicants we receive is enormous. We are doing our very best!

We are not a 24/7 instant access service. Our scholarships take time. We close applications when we have more than 50 pending applications to review.

If you are in an emergency situation, call 9-1-1 immediately!

Everything we do is made possible as a result of our partnerships with vetted treatment programs across the nation and their respective donations of treatment scholarships. We are tremendously grateful for their support!

With the number of submitted applications increasing dramatically, we are continuously reviewing applications and reaching out to our partner treatment programs. Awarding of a scholarship takes time, it’s not something that happens instantly. After applying, qualifying applicants are required to check in, keep us up to date if any information on the application changes, look at all possible resources, meet our criteria, and remain available.

Please remember, we are not an overnight placement service or a 24/7 hotline, if you have an emergency, dial 911 immediately.

Submitting your application is the beginning of the process and a scholarship or sponsored bed is not guaranteed simply because you have applied.

If you have a pending application or are applying now, please note that your application will be prioritized in the order received with approval based on client screening, bed availability, and clinical assessment by the treatment program.

We require all applicants to check in via email every Monday to a specific email address provided when an application is received. This check in keeps your application active. If you stop contacting us, you basically lose your place in line. This helps us keep the truly motivated candidates at the top of the list – those who need help, want help, and are willing to do what it takes to qualify for a 10,000 Beds scholarship. We know life sometimes interferes, so if you miss a Monday, don’t panic, just send a note the following Monday to let us know what happened. In the meantime, hang in there, you are on our radar!

Sincerely, 10,000 Beds Team

The Criteria

Our 10,000 Beds Scholarship Program might be a good fit for you if you meet the following criteria:

  – you are in need of treatment for addiction,

  – you want to get better,

  – you are ready to commit to a minimum of 30 days residential treatment,

  – you have insufficient resources to cover treatment costs,

  – you have exhausted other avenues of support such as family, friends, & church,

  – you believe you might qualify for a 10,000 Beds Scholarship.

If you meet the initial criteria above, please consider submitting an application for scholarship.

Be honest in your responses. For us to help you, we need to understand your reality. We need to understand where you are and what you need.

Once we have established that you meet the basic criteria for a 10,000 Beds Scholarship, our goal is to help you find appropriate sponsored treatment for your unique situation and circumstances.

With only approximately 2 million drug and alcohol treatment beds in the United States and more than 20 million persons above the age of 12 needing treatment, there is an extreme shortage of beds available.

Our goal is to find the few empty beds and fill them with those who need help the most.

The Process

Once your application is received, you should receive a notice advising that we’ve received it.

We review applications regularly. We reach out to qualifying applicants as soon as possible. Our goal is identify a program to fit your needs as quickly as possible, however, please be aware it takes time.

After all information is collected and you are determined eligible for a 10,000 Beds Scholarship, we will forward your application to a carefully selected and vetted 10,000 Beds treatment partner program. Typically, we have a long queue of scholarships that we are reviewing and processing. Please be patient. Scholarship beds are a gift and are available only when a partner facility has an empty bed. We are not an emergency placement service. If you are in an emergency situation, please call 911.

Also remember, after initial approval placement can happen quickly or it can take longer depending on your circumstances, travel arrangements, and the bed availability at our partner facilities. What we CAN promise is that we will do our very best.

Your final approval for a sponsored scholarship bed rests with the treatment program offering the scholarship. They will confirm their scholarship bed availability, review your application and our information, and then contact you for a clinical assessment.

It’s only after all of this is completed that a decision can be made.

Scholarships are awarded based on initial review of online application, follow up conversation, the treatment program’s clinical assessment, and bed availability in an appropriate treatment program for client’s needs.
