How would a recovering addict define recovery?
In 2011 a new working definition of recovery from mental disorders and substance use disorders was announced by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The new definition is as follows:
A process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live a self-directed life, and strive to reach their full potential.
We agree, and we believe SAMHSA’s definition can be summed up in a single word: LIFE.
For an addict, recovery means life.
